Yay - it's feel good time.
It is time for new and exciting ways to think about being a mum that make you feel good, and here are 6 new ways to help make that happen.
There are no more rules – only suggestions and guidelines for you to enjoy and use, adapt or create your own.
These guidelines serve to help you live a feel good lifestyle of your own choice which supports your values, family choices and individuality so that you can feel good about yourself, know that you have so much enough-ness, and enjoy your school kids, have fun, enjoy more ‘glow and flow,’ feel enthusiastic, energised and enjoy being a mom who is an individual woman, and enjoy your everyday life.
Feel Good School Mom has created brand new guidelines for being a mom and mum of school kids starting with 6 ways that have worked for me. Definitions, rules, rule books – they are essentially another word for expectations – and the unwritten ones for moms on school runs expired long ago.
All of this change is to feel good in who you are as you, as an individual person and who you are as a school mom..so bring it on!
1 Turns out that every mum is an amazing individual – there is no such thing as a ‘typical’ mom
Each one of us as a mom has something unique to offer to the world, which is her true self – her individuality, as well as loving and nurturing each precious school kid of ours to thrive in this world.
Each one of us is born as an individual and as a woman. Every individual mum is doing her best and how amazing is that.
Each one of us is completely different – some of us are young with young children, divorced with tweens, married with junior school kids, some of us look after our kids at home, some of us work in paid jobs, some are very educated and some are not, some are single and looking for love while we have teenagers, or older parents with junior school kids.
We are individual women first, and from that we nurture and nourish ourselves, our children, our partners and our world.
We all have different lives with different objectives and values, but we all share one thing in common – we all want the best for our kids - and more good hair days!
And that is such a powerful and positive strength that we all share.
The relief and stress reduction that comes with this realisation completely lifts up your life!
Recognising that as school mums we are a group of amazing individual women - each one different – where we value our own selves as individuals and stand fully in who we are as our own total person and completely endorse ourselves, helps us to find more of everything we want in our life instantly.
This means that we can stop trying to be the same as everyone else, and we can enjoy being who we are.
Accepting that I am a fabulous individual who is an amazing school mom and who makes my own choices makes it easier for me to recognise that in other school mums.
School mum cliques can immediately reduce their dominance. There will always be individuals who don’t get it but So Very What.. S.V.W.
Realising and respecting each other’s differences and choices is the instant way to reducing judgement.
Now that feels good!
The start of realising your existing brilliance comes with having an awareness of your own behaviour and then the behaviour of others.
As a grown up woman, you have the power to influence yourself and those around you.
Consciously choosing kindness and respect to yourself first, and then others, changes your world for more fantastic things to happen – like the simple big joy of this moment.
I am learning that my choice is different to someone else’s, and that does not mean I have to agree with their way, but I don’t have to judge it either. OMG that is a different way for me to think and it works!
Now we don’t have to put our energy into trying to be the same as everyone else – phewwww no more ‘compare and despair’ thinking – and we can put our energy into evolving, growing and celebrating our own individuality…yes that feels good!
2 We are perfectly enough – right this minute
You can’t do it all. So here we are. ‘Perfect school mom’ is the perfectly enough school mum who makes choices that suit who she is and suits how she wants to live her life with all of the wonderful people and things that make up her life.
The old definition of being a ‘perfect school mum’ is the one who wants to do everything for everybody all of the time, and if she stops - omg, and if she spends the morning at the gym with a coffee how unproductive is that – and who has the time anyway! These outdated expectations are too exhausting, too stressful, too anxious, too self-doubtful, too boring, too empty, too tiring and too judgmental.
The feeling of it’s just too much starts to reduce with this one – finally!
Realise that you are perfectly enough – already – do enough, have enough, are enough. You can boost your thinking of being ‘I am an amazing school mum’ who is bursting with self-kindness, self-respect, self-love, self-belief, self-acceptance, self-grace, self-strength, self-satisfaction, self-fulfilment and self-happiness.
We all want to be the best school mom for our kids – the reality is that we already are the best school mum.
Realising that we are enough – we are more than enough – and that we are perfectly enough is life changing.
It’s normal that we don’t have the answers to everything, but So Very What - it doesn’t stop you from being the best - you don’t have to judge yourself anymore. Yay!
I made this new expression called ‘So Very What’ which captures for me the feel-good philosophy of caring more about what you think about yourself more than what other people think.
Say goodbye to self-doubt and hello to self-belief!
3 Turns out that a ‘feel good lifestyle’ gives you more of what you want
Now you don’t have to think that you have to do everything – and on top of it do it the ‘right way.’ The ‘Feel Good Lifestyle’ is essentially a ‘Life in Balance’ which is the new way of being a school mum where you can swap constant exhaustion for some pick me up energy.
You have a choice about the way you want your life to be, because you have a choice about what you think which is what you expect.
This is about being gentler with ourselves, cutting ourselves lots of slack, saying So Very What when we need to, being lighter, and not automatically being harsh on ourselves with unrealistic expectations.
It’s about giving yourself great expectations that make you feel great.
The revamp of expectations helps to release the ‘struggle of the juggle’ and find your feel good lifestyle with some ‘glow and flow.’ Bring it on!
4 Know how valuable you are
What if we could delete the word ‘just’ from our everyday language - “I am JUST a mum.” What if we could NOW say “I am a mum” - no more JUST anything and no more justification.
What if “OMG I am an amazing person and an awesome mum” and stand in our individuality with no more judgements of ourselves, or of others.
I still remember the day when I was new as a school mom and one of the teachers asked me “What do you do?” and I said “I am JUST a mom” – I couldn’t believe it!
Here I was thinking that I was a strong individual and as I said it, it felt wrong, I felt devalued - and I had done it to myself.
The feeling stayed with me for longer than a couple of hours, it stayed for about a couple of years! I had never said something like that in my whole life.
I was so proud to be a mum, but now as the years of school went by, I slowly realised that there was some sort of unwritten devaluation in myself around being a school mum.
Time for change and here I am with Feel Good School Mom – to help create positive change for school mums starting with myself.
The whole world needs to wake up to the greatness of moms of school kids... the amazing school moms.
Now we can say “I am a mum” - no more ‘just’ anything, no more justification.
It’s funny because as I write this, it makes me reflect on this long-gone episode with the teacher and if the teacher asked me again today I would answer very differently and say “I enjoy myself and have fun every day”, as I realise that this is what I ‘do’!
And we all ‘do’ different things and spend our days ‘doing’ different things and that it is so important for every mom of school kids to know that whatever way you choose to ‘do’ your day, it is absolutely brilliant and equally important as every other mom on the planet.
Why… because each of us is an individual, and every person is different to every other person as there is only one of us born in the whole world which is amazingly unique and special, so enjoy being your own individual self which is the coolest thing on the planet.
You are so important.
You are so valuable.
No more silences, sitting in judgment, sitting in feeling better or less than others, basically sitting in ‘judge & grudge’ negative state of mind - it is time for individual inclusion and recognition.
As school mums we are an incredible powerhouse of energy and commitment to our kids, and now we can stretch that focus to includes ourselves and then pass it along to other school mums.
5 We are individuals and Connected Together
Combining the idea that we can be all of our amazing individual self and at the same time see that we can be connected together by seeing that we all want the best for our kids, even though we are all different, gives us some feel good straight away.
This can give us a greater chance of sitting ‘next to each other’ with our differences, and moving towards a more positive connection and inclusive interaction.
We have the chance to see that we are all doing our best and that sometimes we need a little help from each other – like a recipe for a shortcut fast healthy family dinner - which encourages kindness, inclusion and respect of different choices that we each make, rather than being divided by our differences where school mum cliques, exclusion and negativity reign, and where school mums seek the avoidance sanctuary of their phones and cars.
We are awesome.
6 Change the world to what you want - for your kids and yourself
Being a school mum can have its isolating moments, but the funny thing is that we are never alone –there are over 40million school moms, including USA, UK, Australia and Canada, all experiencing some version of this everyday life every day all around the world.
As school mums, we are a powerful group of strong individuals worldwide all doing our best and all tasked with the incredible job of raising our children to be strong and powerful in this world, and to be all of their own amazing self.
40million plus women are currently shaping the future of nearly a billion children in the western world – that is one powerful and valuable group of women!
Sometimes we don’t realise how amazing we are – Feel Good School Mom is here to remind you!
For our children to grow up as empowered, confident, amazing, strong, powerful and kind people, we need to remember that we are that as well – already.
Feel Good School Mom is here to help create a sense of belonging and being connected to something as a school mom, and to know that you are never alone as you go through some of the most stressful days of your entire life.
I used to feel overwhelmed with wondering how can I make the world a better place for my child, and then I realised that as a school mum I have such a gift to be able nurture and nourish my child, myself and family, and that is how it starts – it starts with me.
By seeing ourselves as amazing individuals, we have the opportunity as individuals to be together, as a worldwide voice for ‘school mum strength’ where together we are unified with our differences, and to be a source of collective positive thinking and action power – filled with more understanding, appreciation, kindness, value and respect, starting with ourselves - for creating a world that we want for our children to grow up in, starting in our home, our school and our world.
This is a game changer, a world changer as school moms across the world can enjoy new guidelines of support and fresh new perspectives that focus on having a good time and being valued as a school mum.
Thoughts become things. As school mums we are amazing – as individuals and together.
And here is a reminder of how awesome you are which you can download as a wallpaper for your phone, or print out for your fridge so that you can see it every day!
