Feel Good School Mom

Hello!

Hi and welcome to Feel Good School Mom – the feel good place for moms and mums of school kids and school runs - also known as school moms.

Whether you spell m'o'm or m'u'm, or whether you have schoolkids aged 4 or 17, everyone is welcome here.

I'm Jacqui and as a school mom and life coach, I share real-life tips and experiences about what it really takes to pull off the everyday school routine to help make your life is easier.

I started Feel Good School Mom after searching for 'How to feel good as a mom on the school run' and found nothing that did that! I was feeling over-whelmed, over-scheduled and over-exhausted, and not sure if I wanted to laugh or cry - so I did both!

And so, year after year, I started to figure out that there was a better and easier way to be a school mom, and I wished that I had had this information - and so Feel Good School Mom was born.

Being a mom is 24/7 and with school kids it takes amazing effort to pull off the everyday school routine life - every day - and Feel Good School Mom is here to give a big shout out with recognition, appreciation and thanks for every mum of school kids.

And knowing that there are millions of us - 40million plus school moms and mums - across the world from USA, Canada, UK to Australia (which is why I spell mom and mum) all getting one billion children to school on time and all experiencing some version of this everyday school run life every.day.for.14.years, made me realise that we are in this, both as incredible individuals and together, so no more alone and on our own.

I figured that we all want the same thing - which is the best for our kids (and more good hair days!) - and realize that we are all on the same side, and that wherever we are in the world, we can know what a powerful connected force we are as school moms, and can share our 'school mom strength' and enjoy making this world what we want and enjoy more and stress less with our school kids, school runs, school dad and everyday life.

But I didn't use to think like this! I thought that you got ready for school, did drop off, did your day, then pick-up and that was it!

I had no idea about being a school mum – starting with the mornings and how to get out of the front door, with lunchboxes and water bottles that ‘all the other kids have’ and don’t leak, how do you even manage the time in the morning to make lunch and then make a lunchbox that is delicious, while eating and getting dressed – with shoes on, hair done – for all of you – and before 8am.

And when do you make the beds, clean the kitchen, wash the clothes and plan an evening meal. OMG it’s Book Day costume in two days’ time for school mums in junior school, and the school camp in high school!

And then there are the library books which are due back every second week, but who knows which week it is as you don’t know what day it is, and don’t know where the library books are! And you need to bring in 26 cupcakes in three weeks to celebrate your child’s birthday, with a birthday party you need to organise, which reminds you that you need to buy a birthday present for the party you have been invited to in two weeks’ time.

And you need to remember to buy special hair clips for your daughter’s ‘neat hair bun’ required on top of her head for the dress rehearsal of the school play this Friday, which reminds you that you need to youtube how to do that, and remember the money for the class fundraising project to help disadvantaged kids, which reminds you that that includes a pyjama day which means your child needs new pyjamas because her real pyjamas are for sleeping in so they are not suitable for leaving the house, and the school athletics day is towards the end of the term, not sure when exactly, but reminds you that you need to tell your husband to book that morning off from work so that he can come and watch, which reminds you that you need to fill in the form that was sent home about whether your child needs a lift home in the school bus or if you are collecting them.

And then there are the actual school runs. What do you even wear? Where do you park? The changing good-bye stages from your kids – from the early days of figuring out how to console your kids and yourself with crying at drop off, to your kids wanting you to be mildly or very invisible at drive-through.

And then there are the other school mums – navigating your way through school gates, cliques and who to smile at, packed with differences that divide us, and yet still wanting to have some sort of connection. And then there are the teachers, where I was amazed at how often I felt like I was a school kid in front of the teacher. I seemed to be tripping over so many unwritten rules of being a school mum.

And then it is time to do your day – and before you know it it’s time for afternoon pick-ups – different times for different days, with snacks, and then the combination of doing homework, late pick-up, planning dinner, cooking dinner, play time, screen time, dog walking – all crammed into the hours of 4pm-6pm, and then teeth cleaned, bed and bath, doing dishes, laundry and cleaning.

And then there is school dad, usually your husband, who stands watching from the sidelines, who tends to leave early and return home later, unsure about all of it, oblivious to the marathon effort of the seemingly simple task of going to school and back every day.

And then there is me, you, as school mum. Being a school mom is 24/7 all year round because even in school holidays you still need to organise activities, as well as school uniforms, school shoes, haircuts, dental appointment and socks that don’t itch.

Feel Good School Mom is here to help make a positive difference so whether you are new to the school run or are a seasoned school mom; wherever you live in the world; and however you spell mom or mum - I spell it both ways here, (that's why I made the logo with the letter 'o' split into two - the bottom half is for the m'u'ms and the top half is for the m'o'ms so we are connected!), please know that everyday life just got easier with Feel Good School Mom - here to help you as a school mom so that you can enjoy more of everything...
